The estate of the Transylvanian Hungarian composer, educator, and ethnomusicologist Aladár Zoltán (1929, Mărtiniș/Homoródszentmárton – 1978, Târgu Mureș/Marosvásárhely) was preserved for years by the Teleki-Bolyai Library in Târgu Mureș. Thanks to the meticulous cooperation of chief librarian Dr. Klára Lázok, we were able to take over this multifaceted material from the Teleki Téka Foundation at the end of 2025 within the framework of an institutional partnership. This collection includes the rich documentation of a three-decade-long creative journey (musical and textual manuscripts, folklore collections, concert posters) as well as official and personal documents related to Aladár Zoltán’s career (letters, photographs, diplomas, school reports).
Through preliminary processing, it is already evident that the autograph musical works and the rich notes related to folk music are highly valuable for the oeuvre and for research into Székely land folk music. At the same time, the posters, program brochures, and program notes meticulously documenting the concert life of the 1960s and 1970s represent a specific and hitherto unparalleled group of sources for Transylvanian Hungarian musical culture.
